Grace Virgo Will D/A/We 78/23


In the name of god Amen I Grace 

Virgo of Colnbrook in the Parish of Horton

in the county of Bucks Widow being of sound and 

perfect mind and memory Praise be therefore

Given to Almighty God Do make and publish this 

my last will and Testament in Manner and form 

following  (That is to say) First I recommend my soul 

to the hands of almighty God the creator hoping 

that the merits of my Saviour Jesus Christ to 

have a full and Free Pardon and Remission of All 

my Sins and My Body I com[m]itt to the Earth to be

decently Buried at the discretion of my Executors herein

after named And concerning the Temporal Estate 

wherewith it hath Please God to Bless me I Give

Bequeath and Dispose of the same as followeth (that 

is to say I give and bequeath unto my Niece Catherine 

Hartwell the wife of Jonnes Hartwell the Leasehold 

Messuage Cottage or Tenement with the appurtenances  

Where in I now dwell for and during so many years 

of the said Term of years thereby Granted tho shalt

happen to Live To hence take and receive the 

Rents Issues and Profitts thereof  to her own Perticular 

use and Wherewith her said Husband Shall Not 

Intermeddle  or have any Power Interest or Control 

Either in Law or Equity and that her receipt from 

time to time for the said rent shall be deemed 

And taken to be a goos and sufficient discharge 

in the Law Not withstanding her covert-rise Proof 

Always never the less that it shall not be lawful

to or for the said James Hartwell and Catherine 

Hartwell or Either of them to lilien or sell dispose 

with or mortgage the said messuages or tenements or

any part thereof to any person or persons either in 

the life or the said Catherine or for any time then

Bur in such case the said bequest shall lease and be 

utterly void and from and after the determination of 

estate of the said Katherine Hartwell Either by law 

decease allination of Mortgage as aforesaid I doe 

hereby give and bequeath the said messuage

cottage or tenement with the appurtenances 

unto and amongst such and so many of the children 

of my Late Niece Ann Slaughter deceased as shall

be living at the time of such alienation or

mortgage as aforesaid To hold as joynt tennants 

and not as tenants in common for and divining all the 

rest and residue of the Term of Years which 

shall be then to come and unexpored and in the said 

messuage and further I give unto Lazarus Merry

Thomas Merry and James Hartwell and Thomas 

Slaughter Twelve pence apiece I give unto the 

minister of Horton aforesaid Ten Shillings to say

my final sermon I give eighteen pence 

to eight men that shall carry me to the Ground All

the Rest and Reside of my Personal Estate What

soever I after paymant of My Debts Legecies and 

funeral Expences I give and bequeath unto the said

Katherine Hartwell Whom I do hereby make and 

ordaine Sole exectortrix of this my Last and 

Testament Revoking all former Wills by me made

In Witness whereof I the said Grace Virgo have to this my

Last Will and Testament Sett my hand and Seal 

the thirteenth day of October in the year of Our

Lord One Thousand Seven Hundred and Thirty 

Nine   Grace Virgo  Signed sealed published 

and declared by the above Named Grace Virgo

for her Last Will and Testament in the Presence of

us who subscribed our names as witnesses

in the presence of the said Testatrix   Thos

Fennell    Thos Webb   Dan Forster
