This is the Last Will and Testament of Susanna 

Riddington of Staines in the County of Middlesex Widow In the first place I direct

all my just Debts Legacies Funeral And Testamentary charges and expenses to by fully 

paid and satisfied I give devise and bequeath to my Son in Lay John Chapman of 

Twickenham Smith and my friends James Baker of Staines Surgeon all that my 

Messuage or Tenement situate and being at Colnbrook in the County of Bucks now 

in the several occupations of         Bottle and John Ridgeray with the 

Appurtenances thereunto belonging to hold to them the said John Chapman and

James Baker and to the survivor of them and to the Executors and Administrators of 

such survivor upon trust that they my said Trustees or the survivor of them his 

Executors or Administrators do and shall with all convenient speed sell and 

absolutely dispose of the same either by Public Auction or private contract for the 

best price that can be obtained for the same and for facilitating such sale I

direct that the receipt of my said Trustees or either of them shall be good and 

sufficient discharges to any person or persons purchasing the said premises and 

that such purchase or purchases shall not afterwards be concerned in seeing to 

the application of the purchase money or be accountable for the misapplication 

thereof and after full payment of the costs and charges attending such sale I direct

the clear produce thereof to fall into and become a part of my personal Estate

I give a Legacy of twenty pounds to Joseph Clark Riddington my late husband’s 

son I give a Legacy of fifty pounds to my son John Fowcott I give a Legacy of 

ten pounds to my Sister Mary May I give a Legacy of five pounds each to 

Harriett Riddington and Elizabeth Riddington both of Kensington I give my 

silver mug and my two best silver table spoons to my daughter in law Ann Chapman I

give my silver cream pot silver tongs and six silver tea spoons to my daughter in

Law Mart Hitchens I direct my linen to be divided equally between my said 

daughters in Law Mary Hitchins and Ann Chapman and I do hereby give and 

bequeath the same to them accordingly I direct my said trustees tl sell and 

absolutely dispose of all the rest and residue of my Household Goods and Furniture 

and other effects not herein before disposed of and after defraying the expenses 

attending such sale I direct the clear produce thereof to fall into and become a 

part of the residue of my Estate and all the rest residue and remainder of my Estate

and Effects whatever and wheresoever and of whatever nature or kind the same

mat be I give and bequeath the same unto my said two daughter in Law Mary 

Hitchins and Ann Chapman equally to be divided between them share and 

share alike to and for their own absolute use and benefit I direct my said 

Trustees to retain to and reimburse themselves all cost charges and expenses 

which they may sustain or be put unto in the execution of the trusts hereby in

them reposed and I direct that they shall not be answerable for any accidental

loss which may happen to any part of my estate unless the same shall happen 

this their wilful neglect I nominate constitute and appoint the said John 

Chapman and James Baker Trustees and Executor of this my will and 

hereby revoking all former Wills by me at any time hereto fore made do declare this

to be my last Will and Testament In witness whereof I have hereunto set 

my hand and seal this fifth day of August in the year of out Lord One thousand 

eight hundred and twenty nine. The mark of X Susanna Riddington 

Signed sealed published and declared by the said Susanna Riddington as and 

for her last will and Testament in the presence of us who in her presence at her 

request and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names

as witnesses thereunto J H Mitchiner of Stained Jno Wahner Staines 

Wm Sherley Stanwell. 


Proved at London 25 Nov 1839 before the Worshipful Jesse Addams

Doctor of Laws and Surrogate by the oath of John Chapman and James Baker

the Exectors to whom Administration was granted having been first sworn duly to 

Administer
