From the Langley Marish Court Books

We do order That no Tenants or Inhabitants within this Manor. either by themselves or servants shall lay or cast any filth dung Carrion filth-water or any other noisome thing or suffer any suicke [sewage] to run either into the high street or any other lanes or passages of the Town of Colebrooke on forfeiture of two shillings six pence for every-time to the Contrary

Item, we do order That no manner of Cattle shall be put into any Common pasture fields meadows or stubble ground within Manor. before three days after such fields are rid of their respective crops every year by any of the tenants of the said Manor. Horse & beasts to be putt in three days after & sheep not till Nine after Nor any person of persons shall Baite their Cattle in the Common fields there upon pain of three shillings & four pence a head for any head of cattle putt into the same fields or baited to the Contrary of this order.

Item, we doe order That no Tenants of this Manor. Shall let their forrens or fall out-grounds to any Hire-ing out of the said parish If any parishioner will take the same At the rate of four pence an acre for every acre above with said summe they are not to Let.

Item, we do order that no Tennant within this Manor. Shall keep on the Common pasture field meadows stubble grounds or fallow grounds there above the rate of one sheep at half to an acre for any acre there which they hold on pain of four pence for any Sheep over & above the said rate.

Item, we do order, That the Chappell wardens of Colebrooke for the time being shall from time to time keep & sufficiently Alms & repair the bridges and Causeways between the Spittle house and Colebrooke aforesaid soe as passengers may goe dry on pain to forfeit forty shillings for any default.

Item, we do order, That no person shall carry any gravel sand or loam out of the wast of this Manor, into another Liberty or parish upon pain of forfeit five shillings any load.

Item, we present That whereas Nicholas Baxter Esq. was presented the last Court for erecting part of a brick-wall upon the waste of this Manor near his farm & house to be pulled down & removed before the feast of St Thomas The Apostle next ensuring the date hereof upon pain of ten pounds

Item, we do appoint to be field drivers got this Manor for the year ensuing John Ball, Henry Smith the elder & Joseph Fellowe

Item, we do appoint for Staking Days Wednesday the Ninth day of November next ensuring for Horsemore field & Monday the Six & twentieth day of December next ensuing for Westmore & Southend Fields And we do appoint the Jurors to meet at the Church house in Langley Marish aforesaid by eight of the clock in the morning upon pain of Two Shillings & sixpence for any of them that shall make default.
