"These are to certifie whom (it may) concern That the Bearer hereof
Stephen West son of John West of the parish of Horton in the County of Bucks, Gent. (who hath an estate here of one hundred pounds p annum or upwards) was born and educated in our said Parish of Horton and that during the time he was amongst us he was always modest in behaviour sober and civill in his life and conversation, a frequenter of the Church of England, as now be ..law established, and generally... our Neighbourhood and that he never was married or contracted to any... to our knowledge and that we do give this testimonial to no other than to do him Justice.
